We’d like to say a massive thank you to outgoing Chair, Andrew Watson. During his Chairmanship the Club has gone from strength to strength, both in financial terms and membership numbers. Going forward we welcome Lucy Stephen to the role. Lucy is one of our longest serving members. Her love of the Club is obvious for all to see, and we are in no doubt that the club is in good hands moving forward.
The sun was shining and we were smiling! We entered two teams, Bingham Tri and Bingham Tri Too (see what we did). In the absence of Club Event Coordinator Lucy, who was sunning herself in Italy, Club Coach Pete (AKA Chief Admin Officer/Head Cheerleader/Official Photographer) took responsibility for the days admin, issued the race numbers and delivered his pre race pep talk “Don’t be s***”, it was game on!
Both teams Bingham Tri (Neil, Stacey, Martin and Keith) and Bingham Tri Too (Amy, Chris, Richard and Mark) completed the event within the cutoff time and, most importantly, with the true Bingham Tri spirit by giving it there all and doing it with a smile! A special mention goes to mark, see photo, for providing the comedy moment of the day whilst trying to put his wetsuit on. I won’t embarrass him by telling you what he did…
Same time next year!
Once again we had our Club Aquathon, hosted by Paul Fowler from 100% Swimming, at Activities Away. Despite a few falling by the wayside due to illness we had a healthy turnout, on what was a lovely evening.
Congratulations to Tom and Eleanor, who had an epic battle from start to finish with Ami, who are this years winners.
Despite a couple of injuries and a wedding ring deposited somewhere in the lake, a great time was had by all.
In typical Bingham Tri fashion, we had a small but very vocal cheerleading squad, armed with a carrier bag full of ‘healthy’ snacks, showing there support. Thank you all.
So, the season kicked off with some early season pool based sprints in April. East Leake and the Notts Varsity were pretty cold but the sun came out for Southwell. It was great to see some first timers competing at these events, it gives everyone a buzz!
As we moved into May the lakes opened and the wetsuits came out. This started the Aquathon season at Activities away and once again we have had several members competing, with our Club Championship taking place tomorrow. May also saw the Nottingham Sprint and Outlaw Half and once again we had some excellent performances.
Into June and the weather warmed up nicely. We had a couple of touring parties going to the Deva Standard in Chester, a first river swim for one of our members, and Tallington Lakes. Members also took part at Windsor, another first timer at Olympic Distance, Dambuster and Ironman Staffs 70.3 with another first timer over that distance!
Into July and we sent another raiding party to Norfolk to tackle the Outlaw Half at Holkham. On what was a hot breezy day our members did amazing, with one of our ladies smashing her PB at the 70.3 distance by well over 30mins and our Lead Coach coming in Sub 5hrs.
Add to this the numerous running, biking and swimming events that we’ve been taking part in and it adds up to a busy season so far.
Our coaches are so proud of every single member, the effort they put in at our swim and run sessions, and the results they are achieving.
It felt like a longgggggggg winter, but the new season is finally here! Club members have been working hard in the pool and at our new Thursday running drills session over the winter. A few members have already competed in some (cold) early season events, notably Stathern Duathlon, East Leake Tri and the Notts Varsity Tri.
We are looking forward to Southwell Tri on 23rd April, were we have a few club members competing, some for the first time, and we will have cheerleaders from the club in attendance (possibly with a cow bell) to support and encourage.
Also, the lakes are starting to open,oh yes, it’s open water swimming time!
Happy Triathloning 🙂

A very enjoyable days racing for the Bingham Tri Club in the Allerthorpe Classic on 7th August: Very bashy in the water, very windy on the bike and a 10.6km run!!!!. Well done to all who raced and big thank you to those who went along to support.
Well done to Lara Thornhill for her Age Group first place and team Howitt for a strong performance in the Team event.
